Fox Hollow Post Acute brings more effective and gentler dialysis to the geriatric population with Dialyze Direct. In the traditional model, a patient is brought away from the Skilled Nursing Facility. Generally during this departure, a patient tends to miss meals and activities that are a good part of rehabilitation. 

From a quality-of-life point of view, social activities and anything else that the patient enjoys, they miss. Patients keep coming back to the hospital with the root cause of fluid overload. Many return 3 times a week for dialysis. One of the problems with this is incomplete fluid removal. 

A patient with conventional dialysis may spend 8-9 hours recovering from the dialysis treatment. Dialysis for the elderly could take a full day.

In 2004, a home dialysis machine was developed. One of the first things that patients enjoyed was the reduction in recovery time. Recovery averaged a half hour to an hour. This made a huge difference. The patient could return to work. Patients were able to use their days. At that time only this home dialysis machine was available for the wealthier and healthier. At that time, the elderly population did not have access to this type of treatment. 

These machines have been further developed to be made available at skilled nursing facilities like Fox Hollow Post Acute. This new setup removes a lot less fluid but removes it more frequently. This means our patients have a more comfortable, tolerable life with more meaning and time doing desired activities. No transportation, no full-day recovery in beds. Instead, they can enjoy dining, activities, and life at Fox Hollow. Patients progress to recovery better with this new type of therapy.
